Dr. Sandy Gluckman, author of Who’s in the Driver’s Seat, recently sat down with us to talk about her visit to the part of the Zappos Family residing in Las Vegas and how her concepts of spirited economics™ and spirited leadership are alive within the walls of our building.
The idea behind spirited economics™ is that employee spirit, excitement, drive, passion, and vision should be valued as a financial asset. The American economy loses billions of dollars a year on unengaged and unproductive employees; learning how to lead with spirit and recognizing spirited employees in your business can help you to make sure you are not throwing money out the window.

Sounds amazing. Has anyone read the book Social Conscience by MWE Glautier?

Amelia,
Great interview! I really like the concept of spirited economics. With the web economy and the internet both simultaneously shrinking our world and expanding it, I think Sandy’s point is well made. The information tools we have at our disposal can provide a huge pool of people full of spirit, excitement, drive, passion, and vision. I think the problem lies and where leadership is so crucial is how do you channel those people, bring them together to make a difference?
The one thing that the internet does not provide, is leadership on demand. I think it becomes crucial to seek out and incubate leaders who have the vision and insight to bring all those people together to accomplish what they have the spirit to do. In other words, I think a spirited leader is the person who can carve a path and provide what is needed to transform the pool, into a river with a mission, goals and purpose.
